In February 2017, I was honored to be the guest speaker at the Fort Belvoir, VA Black History Month Program. The theme for 2017 was “The Crisis in Black Education.” The crisis is Black education began during slavery. Slaves were punished for educating themselves. During the Mass Resistence, to prevent integtation, schools were closed. However, in some states, such as Virginia, State funds were used to support schools for White children, while schools for Blacks were closed.
